At Our Wedding Reception, My New Husband Ordered The DJ To Delete My Late Father’s Favorite Song. The DJ’s Response Left The Entire Ballroom Speechless

Part 1

During my own wedding reception…

I watched my brand-new husband walk over to the DJ and ask him to erase the one song that meant more to me than anything else.

He said it would ruin the mood.

I stood there in my wedding gown…

Unable to believe what I was hearing.

My name is Cassie.

My father passed away two years before the day I got married.

He wasn’t there to walk me down the aisle.

He wasn’t there for the father-daughter dance we’d dreamed about for years.

But there was one small piece of him I had hoped would still be part of the evening.

When I was little…

Dad loved to dance around the kitchen.

He’d smile, pat the tops of his shoes, and tell me to climb aboard.

I would stand on his feet while he shuffled us slowly across the floor, laughing until neither of us could breathe.

Every Sunday morning…

Without fail…

He played the same old song.

Over time…

It stopped being just another tune.

It became ours.

When I started planning my wedding…

I made only one request that truly mattered.

I wanted that song played.

Just once.

I wanted three quiet minutes where I could close my eyes…

Remember my father…

And pretend, if only for a little while, that he was still dancing beside me.

Brad knew exactly what that song meant.

I’d shared the story with him more times than I could count.

There was no misunderstanding.

No forgotten conversation.

He understood.

The reception was already alive with laughter.

Guests crowded the dance floor.

Friends filled their glasses.

Families talked across decorated tables while music echoed through the ballroom.

Somewhere along the way…

Brad decided my father’s favorite song didn’t belong at a celebration.

I watched him cross the room toward the DJ booth.

He leaned over the equipment.

Pointed toward the playlist displayed on the laptop.

I was close enough to hear every word.

“Yeah…”

“That old slow song.”

“Take it off.”

“It’s depressing.”

“We’re trying to keep the energy up.”

For a moment…

It felt as though the room shifted beneath my feet.

I wanted to stop him.

I wanted to tell him no.

I wanted to remind him that this wasn’t just another song.

It was the last piece of my father I could still share that evening.

But I stood there…

Surrounded by nearly two hundred guests.

Still wearing my wedding dress.

The thought of causing a scene on my own wedding day left me frozen.

So I said nothing.

Only a few steps away…

I listened in silence.

And hated myself for not speaking.

The DJ was an older gentleman.

His neatly trimmed gray beard framed a face that had remained calm and professional all evening.

He wasn’t the type to insert himself into anyone else’s business.

In fact…

He had barely spoken since the reception began.

I assumed he’d quietly nod.

Delete the song.

And move on.

After all…

The groom was the one making the request.

Instead…

The DJ slowly rested one hand across the soundboard.

Not casually.

Almost protectively.

As though someone had tried to remove something that wasn’t theirs to touch.

His eyes remained on Brad.

“I’m not taking that song off the playlist,” he said quietly.

Brad let out a short laugh.

It wasn’t amused.

It was annoyed.

“Excuse me?”

“I’m the groom.”

“I’m telling you to remove it.”

The older man didn’t answer immediately.

Instead…

He looked beyond Brad.

His eyes found me standing quietly across the room in my wedding dress.

For a long moment…

Neither of us spoke.

Then he turned back toward Brad.

When he finally opened his mouth…

His voice never rose.

Yet somehow…

Every person seated near the dance floor heard him.

Conversations began fading.

People slowly turned their heads.

“I have one question before I start changing tonight’s music.”

He paused.

Then calmly asked,

“Who paid for this reception two years ago?”

“Because I know for a fact…”

“It wasn’t the groom.”
